Houses and homes, Our trip to the Post Office, Caribbean book week
This term in 1B our topic has been houses and homes, now and in the past. We have looked at houses and homes in our local area, have learnt our addresses and found our homes on a map of Edenbridge. We also looked at pictures of old and new buildings in Edenbridge and talked about what they looked like and what we knew about them. We have also had lots of fun making clay houses in art and designing model houses using cardboard boxes in DT, making sure we were careful using the saw to cut the wood for the door frames.
Just before the February holiday we had a visit to the Post Office to help us use our Post Office role play and learn what it is like to work as a postman. We found out how to sort the post and how the post is delivered to our homes. We also used the visit to help us write recounts in our literacy lessons.
This year's Book Week had a Caribbean theme and we spent the week writing pirate stories, counting and spending our gold in numeracy and even trying some tropical fruits as well as lots of dressing up!
