Making our own toys and checking to see how we could improve our design
SPRING TERM IN 2S
We have had great fun this term looking at wind up toys. We spent some time looking at a variety of wind up toys and investigated how they work. We had a go at using construction toys to recreate some of the moving parts we had found on the toys, mainly axles. We thought hard about the different wind up toys we could make and made a design for our own toy. We had to think about how our toy would work, what we would need, how we would join it all together and what it would look like. We really enjoyed making our wind up toys and they were all very successful. To check our toy worked properly, we put a magnet on the bottom of the moving piece and had to collect a metal object from a pot by winding our toy up and down. After we had tested the toys, we had to evaluate our design. To evaluate our toys we had to say if our toy worked, if we had to change anything on our design during construction, if our toy looked like our design and if we were to do it again, would we do anything different next time.
We made either a fishing rod, a spout for Incy Wincy spider to climb up or a wishing well.
Here are some of our toys.
