Edenbridge Primary School – Governing Body
The Spring Newsletter
The Governing Body
The purpose of the Governing body is to review and determine school aims and objectives, its policies, plans, targets and monitor results. The day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility of the headteacher who is the principal professional advisor of the governing body. Governors provide support for, and act as “critical friend” to, the headteacher and the school. Some of the work of the governing body is devolved to smaller committees that have responsibilities for monitoring and reviewing different areas of school life. The Governing Body and each committee meet once a term and the responsibilities of the committees are shown below.
Curriculum & Standards
To monitor with the Headteacher the school’s delivery of the Foundation Stage Curriculum and National Curriculum as well as the National Literacy and Numeracy strategies. To review the policy and provision for SEN, Sex Education, RE and Collective Worship and make recommendations where necessary.
Pay & Staffing
To consider any formal complaints from staff and carry out the appraisal of the Headteacher. To act as a sounding board for the Headteacher on any staffing issues. To achieve the aims of the whole school pay policy in a fair and equal manner.
Health, Safety & Premises
To monitor and report to the Governors all matters relating to the management of the school premises. To advise the Governors on all matters of Health and Safety management in the school. To determine priorities, submit bids, place orders and monitor the work ensuring that expenditure is controlled within the budget.
To set the annual school budget and identify what funding is available to support key areas determined in the School Improvement Plan. To advise Governors on financial and budget matters and regularly monitor expenditure of the school budget throughout the year.
